Corrupt politicians, officials must be brought before law

-

We must thank the present government for taking action against corrupt politicians and corrupt officials. But there are many other cases of corruption or misuse of government funds that have been exposed. Some of them are given below.

Members of parliament have defaulted many bank loans.

MPS and officials have earned money by selling their duty free vehicle permits.

Many professionals including Doctors and University Teachers who went for higher studies using public funds have not come back or paid back, according to the agreements.

Cronies of politicians have raised bank loans some of which have been written off.

Many politicians and officials have accumulated wealth through corrupt methods. This needs to be probed.

There are complaints that corrupt officials, politicos earned unlawful commissions running into colossal amounts during the privatization of Telecom and the national carrier. There are many other cases of corruption that have taken place during the previous regime which has been swept under the carpet, which should also be investigated. Many officials have helped the culprits in these frauds must also be brought before the law.

We ask the government to take tangible action to bring back the plundered public funds to state coffers to eliminate the present financial crisis. W. DHARMADASA
