MUNCHEE SUPER LEAGUE VOLLEYBALL

FIRST ROUND FROM NOV. 6 TO 9 AT MAHARAGAMA

The Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation has arranged that the first round matches of the Munchee Nationals Super League Volleyball Tournament (men and women) will be held from November 6 to 9 at the National Youth Service Council (NYSC) courts, Maharagama.

The tournament is sponsored by Ceylon Biscuits Ltd. Munchee Brand.

Eight men’s teams and six women’s teams have qualified for the event. The men’s teams are: SL Army, SL Navy, SL Air Force, SL Police, Ceylon Electricit­y Board, National Youth Services Council, Ports Authority and T.J. Garments.

The six women’s teams are: Casual Line Mawathagam­a, National Youth Service Council, SL Army, Ports Authority, SL Navy and SL Air Force.

The finals are scheduled for December 15 at the NYSC courts. A.S . Nalaka

Men and Women winners will receive R. 100,000 each. The runners-up will be in line for Rs.75.000. the third place winner will receive Rs. 50,000.

There will also be special awards for Best Players.

that this is the final national level volleyball tournament for the year. Judging by the performanc­es of this tournament and previous tournament­s four volleyball national pools (men and women) will be formed. They are Under 23 Men and Women and Open Men and Women.

In 2019 there are three internatio­nal tournament­s. They are the next South Asian Games (Open Men and Women) and the Asian Junior Men and Women.

The Volleyball Federation is hoping to select 30 players each for the pools.

Coaches are also in line to be selected for each pool. Applicatio­ns for the coaches will be called in December.

For the Open Men’s Pool, a foreign coach will be recruited and the FIVB has been advised to provide a suitable coach. For the women’s Open Pool, currently there is a Cuban Coach.
