The completion of the quarterfinals of the All Island Lanka Plate Snooker Championship played in the evening session at the Moors Sports Club billiards table saw M.N.M. Rimzan (YMCA), Ashiq Hussain (Moors SC), Anuruddha Higgoda and M.M. Rikas (both of Otters AC) winning their matches to advance to the semi-finals.
Higgoda recorded the easiest of wins when he overcame S. Safraz of Sea Endless by three frames to nil in the five-frame encounter while the other three cueists conceded a frame each to their opponents.
The All Island Lanka Plate Snooker Championship conducted by the Billiards and Snooker Association of Sri Lanka and sponsored by U.W. Sumathipala and Group of Companies was contested by 40 cueists from clubs around the island.
Meanwhile the 16 players who qualified to play in the forthcoming 66th National Snooker Championship were H. A. Deen (Kandy), W. M. Priyantha (POP), M. R. T. Chandana (BRC), M. M. Rikas (OAC), M. Farhan (Galle), Ashiq Hussain (MSC), E. T. M. Soyza (Army), D. L. T. Ramesh (Panadura), M. A. M. Rimzan (YMCA), Anuruddha Higgoda (OAC), Lesley Perera (Nuwara Eliya),
W. M. P. Pushpakumara (ICSC), M. N. M. Izam (Starlight), S. S. Dinuruwan (Army) and Azeez Hinoon (MICH).
The two seven-frame semi-finals will be played today from 9.00 a.m. followed by the nine-frame final slotted to be played later in the day in two sessions at 1.00 p.m. (4 frames) and 3.00 p.m. (5 frames) at the same venue.
