TNA ,JVP FORM CAMARADERIE TO RESIST ACTIONS BY PREZ
The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) held bilateral talks yesterday and decided to resist what they termed ‘ unconstitutional and unlawful activities, that started with the sacking of UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe from premiership on October 26, a spokesman said.
TNA spokesman M.a.sumanthiran told the Daily Mirror that a JVP delegation led by its leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake met him and TNA leader R.sampanthan at the Opposition Leader’s Office.
JVP MP Bimal Ratnayake and Politburo member K.d.lalkantha also attended the meeting.
Mr. Sumanthiran said the removal of the sitting Prime Minister and the appointment of a new one on October 26 was unconstitutional. He said the prorogation of Parliament after that was also undemocratic.
Therefore, he said the TNA and the JVP decided to resist these moves jointly and join hands with the forces against such unlawful and undemocratic practices.
Meanwhile, after meeting with the TNA delegation JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake told the media, that they were prepared
We are not interested in personalities. We are committed to that Constitutional provisions are being upheld. They cannot be violated
to come forward at any time when democracy was at stake.
“We should not allow anyone to form a government or topple a government through a political coup. We discussed with TNA leader how we could work together to defeat this coup. We as the JVP and people in the north have faced repercussions of anti-democratic situation,’ he said.
Mr. Sampanthan said they were committed to upholding democracy and added that the removal and appointment of a new prime minister is a violation of the Constitution.
