Ugly politics and nauseating policies

-

Sri Lankan politics had a 360 degree turn since October 26, when President Maithripala Sirisena sacked PM Ranil Wickremesinghe and appointed his one-time arch political rival Mahinda Rajapaksa as the new PM. Whether this decision was constitutionally correct or incorrect, as it is being debated by many, I feel writing again is useless and it’s just a waste of time and energy.

The prorogation of Parliament has now come into focus. Whilst the UNP and other Opposition parties are demanding the convening of Parliament.the President has prorogued Parliament first till November 16 and then 7th and now advanced it to 14th due to mounting local and international pressure.

One question, both the President and the new PM should answer is; if you have the numbers, why can’t you convene Parliament and show your strength? The reason you haven’t done was, you don’t have the numbers. UNP MP Palitha Range Bandara had made a public comment alleging you were trying to buy MPS from the Opposition through ‘Horse Trading’ ranging from Rs. 500 million for a single cross over!

This is disgraceful and shameless not only on your part for buying, but for those who are being ‘traded in’.the public argument is that whether both the giver and taker do not know that it’s an offence to accept or give bribe and it’s punishable with a jail sentence? The ‘buying and selling’ of MPS is like the slave trade of the past. It’s disgusting! This reminds me of what former US President Ronald Reagan said.

”Politics is the second oldest profession in the world, but it bears a striking resemblance to the first.” Now where do we all stand? Whither democracy and back to the base with the white van culture etc., or are we going to safeguard democracy?

Back to the slave trade, did we hear someone telling the nation that “I want an administration that is free of corruption.”who is shielding whom? A majority of those who are now with the President have cases filed against them for various offences, malpractices and corruption.

Please stop this ridiculous habit of buying MPS from the market in the morning and swearing him/ her at night as a Minister or Deputy. Mr. Prez your credibility and integrity is no more.you are now an ordinary citizen, just Sirisena!

A disgusted citizen
