PROAM TRI SERIES DUATHLON 2018 CONCLUDES SUCCESSFUL­LY

The Proam Tri Series Duathlon 2018 concluded successful­ly on October 28, 2018. The event added a level of vigour and zest for athletics while also acting as a warm-up event in anticipati­on for the upcoming IRONMAN 70.3 Colombo which is set to take place early next year.

The Duathlon, which incorporat­es two discipline­s; running and cycling, commenced with a 2.5 kilometre run, a 20km bike ride and ended with a 5km run.

The Duathlon was the second leg of the Proam Tri Series – the first was the Aquathlon, which also concluded successful­ly on September 30.

Athletes both male and female raced under the following age groups:

· Elite Category (Profession­al Athletes and under the following age groups 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50 and above

· Mixed Relay Teams Category

The Tri Series aims to bring to life the excitement behind taking part in a multisport­ing event which merges the three core sports pillars of swimming, cycling and running. Athletes, both profession­als and amateurs from all walks of life have been involved with these events since the inception of the series and have been able to experience a world recognised sporting spectacle right here in Sri Lanka.

The main purpose of why we organised the Triseries is to motivate every individual to test their limits and to immerse themselves in an experience like no other, fuelled by ambition and carried on to glory for IRONMAN 70.3 which will be held on February 24, 2019

Adding his insight to the ongoing Tri Series, Yasas Hewage, Director, Pro-am Serendib (Pvt) Ltd. stated, “The main purpose of why we organised the Tri-series is to motivate every individual to test their limits and to immerse themselves in an experience like no other, fuelled by ambition and carried on to glory for IRONMAN 70.3 which will be held on February 24, 2019. I urge everyone to start training in teams or as individual­s to bring glory to yourselves and to feel the exposure of a global multi sport event,” adding, “The introducti­on of the Pro-am Tri Series this year will give local athletes a taste of what to expect from the IRONMAN 70.3 Colombo Triathlon and help them become familiaris­ed with it as well as understand the concept of adopting three discipline­s and going for it by themselves.”

The third leg of the Tri Series, the Sprint Triathlon is scheduled to be held on November 24. The upcoming IRONMAN Triathlon is one not to be missed and it is high time for Colombo to wake up and get ready for one of Sri Lanka’s most anticipate­d multi-sport events. As of now, and with four months of ample time to train and get ready, athletes are encouraged to come forward and take part in these events and help to highlight Sri Lanka to the world.
