Hemas Hospitals (Pvt.) Ltd, a subsidiary of Hemas Holdings PLC, yesterday said it divested the 35-bed Hemas Southern Hospital to Asiri Hospital Holdings PLC, for a consideration of Rs.450 million.

Hemas said the transaction took place on November 2.

Southern Hospital was the first medical facility acquired by Hemas in 2007, marking its entry into the healthcare sphere. Hemas said subsequent to the sale, they would continue to focus on developing tertiary capability in the remaining two hospital assets—hemas Wattala and Hemas Thalawathugoda.

These two hospitals have a combined bed capacity of 184.

Hemas also has an islandwide laboratory network of 34 diagnostic laboratories.

“We identified the Asiri group of hospitals as the best fit due to their capability of providing high-quality patient care and we are confident that they will continue to develop the hospital. All our employees will continue to remain under the new ownership,” Hemas Hospitals Managing Director Dr. Lakith Peiris said in a statement.

He also said both Hemas labs and hospitals are looking to expand their businesses to international markets.

With the acquisition, the Asiri hospitals group, as Sri Lanka’s private healthcare leader, currently has a total bed capacity of 509.

The bed capacity of Asiri Hospital Kandy, which is slated to be opened by the first quarter of 2019, is 175.
