The New ‘Skin Type’ Diet Promises Better Skin and a Flatter Belly

-

We all know that what we eat is directly related to our weight - but our diet is also just as important when it comes to skin health. The food people eat - from wrinkle-fighting antioxidants in fresh produce to hydrating healthy fats in fish - may improve the skin almost as much as it does the waistline. According to Sporteluxe, an American celebrity facialist has created a five-day holistic programme that claims it helps people develop healthy skin and lose a couple of kilos. But is it as effective as it sounds? Before beginning the detox she's created, clients need to undergo an hours consultation to determine their specific skin issues Teresa Tarney is often referred to as one of the most ‘influential experts' in skincare and considers people like Kate Moss and Sienna Miller regular clients. Before beginning the detox she's created, clients need to undergo an hour's consultation to determine their specific skin issues. This time is also used to look at their diet, stress levels and any other concerns regarding their health. ‘From here, she creates a customised diet plan that aims to “get the gut calm, so it can break down food and absorb nutrients properly” and prevent the acne concerns,' the publication reads. While carrying out the diet people have to avoid consuming any gluten, wheat, dairy, sugar, alcohol and coffee and nightshades due to their potential inflammatory effects. Foods that aren't off limits are dishes such as turmeric-roasted fennel, chickpea, and kale salad and slow-cooked chicken curry. According to Ms Tarney once the five days are done they will have flawless skin and an increase in energy. ‘You'll feel fresh by Friday. And you do lose a few pounds, which makes everyone feel quite jolly,' she said. This almost sounds too good to be true and according to Australian dietitian Lyndi Cohen, 28, it is. ‘There is absolutely no science to back up the claim that eliminating gluten, dairy, wheat, sugar, coffee and nightshades from your diet will improve your skin,' she told FEMAIL.
