POLICE UNDER PRESIDENT, BANKS TO PM
PRESIDENT HAS THE SOLE DISCRETION TO ASSIGN SUBJECTS
The Sri Lanka Police Department was brought under the purview of the Defence Ministry by President Maithripala Sirisena under the constitutional powers vested in him.
Currently, the President is the Defence Minister. The gazette notice was issued by President Maithripala Sirisena re-assigning the various departments, corporations and other statuary bodies under the recently created ministries.
Srilankan Airlines and Mihin Lanka have been brought under the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation.
The President has the sole discretion in terms of the Constitution to assign subjects to ministries. The Police remained under the purview of the Law and Order Ministry during the previous Unp-led rule. Banks were brought under Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa who is also the Finance Minister.
