The Spe­cial High Court yes­ter­day tem­po­rar­ily lifted the travel ban im­posed on for­mer De­fence Sec­re­tary Gotabaya Ra­japaksa for one month from De­cem­ber 17 en­abling his travel to the US.

The Spe­cial High Court at Bar yes­ter­day made this or­der con­se­quent to an ap­pli­ca­tion made in court by his coun­sel.

Mr. Ra­japaksa made this ap­pli­ca­tion in court on a case filed against him and six oth­ers who were ac­cused of mis­ap­pro­pri­at­ing pub­lic funds to con­struct the D.A. Ra­japaksa memo­rial and the mu­seum at Weer­aketiya.

L.A. Prasad Har­shana de Silva, for­mer man­ager B.U. Ka­mal­adasa, S.K. At­ty­galla, S.K. Galap­pa­thy. M.D.M. Saliya and M.A. Mal­lika were also in­dicted with Mr. Ra­japaksa at the HC Trial-at-bar un­der the Pub­lic Prop­erty Act and the Pe­nal Code on charges of abus­ing pub­lic prop­erty.

The FCID af­ter con­duct­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tion on the mat­ter had re­ported to the At­tor­ney Gen­eral that the seven ac­cused had con­spired to com­mit breach with re­gard to Rs.48,563,929 be­long­ing to the SLRDC.
