Con-man arrested for cheating millions of rupees
A suspect wanted in connection with cheating several young men and women and collecting more than Rs. 10 million from them on the promise of finding them employment abroad was arrested by the Panadura Crime Investigation Unit. The 42-year-old suspect was a resident of Pinwatta in Panadura.
He had cheated several individuals in Moratuwa, Ambalangoda, Giriulla, Homagama and Makola and collected money from them on the promise of providing them employment in Italy, Israel, Australia and the Middle East countries.
Investigations revealed that the suspect who rented motor vehicles from rent-a-car services in Elpitiya and Ambalangoda areas mortgaged them on forged documents and earned about Rs.15 million. He was produced before the Panadura Chief Magistrate and remanded till November 15.
