Con-man arrested for cheating millions of rupees

A suspect wanted in connection with cheating several young men and women and collecting more than Rs. 10 million from them on the promise of finding them employment abroad was arrested by the Panadura Crime Investigat­ion Unit. The 42-year-old suspect was a resident of Pinwatta in Panadura.

He had cheated several individual­s in Moratuwa, Ambalangod­a, Giriulla, Homagama and Makola and collected money from them on the promise of providing them employment in Italy, Israel, Australia and the Middle East countries.

Investigat­ions revealed that the suspect who rented motor vehicles from rent-a-car services in Elpitiya and Ambalangod­a areas mortgaged them on forged documents and earned about Rs.15 million. He was produced before the Panadura Chief Magistrate and remanded till November 15.
