Access road to the Somawathiya Sacred Area goes under water

The access road to the Somawathiya Sacred Area had gone under water bringing traffic to a standstill last morning. The Pulasthipura Police said the road had gone under water by about 3ft. at several locations.

Police said the Somawathiya National Park had gone under water and that a herd of wild elephants from the National Park had come onto the main road. A senior police official said traffic between the Periyaru bridge in Sungawila and the Somawathiya Sacred Area had been suspended until the situation was brought back to normal.
