Mu­ruthawela Reser­voir reach­ing spill level

Heavy rain ex­pe­ri­enced in the South at present had re­sulted in the Mu­ruthawela Reser­voir in Weer­aketiya reach­ing spill level. Ir­ri­gation En­gi­neer Weer­aketiya Divi­sion K.N.H. Sa­han said three spill gates of the reser­voir had been opened and ex­cess wa­ter was be­ing re­leased at a speed of 360cu.ft per hour.

The en­gi­neers said the ca­pac­ity of the reser­voir was 38,875 acre feet and that it could over­flow if the wa­ter level of the Urubokka Oya swelled due to the heavy rain be­ing ex­pe­ri­enced in the area at present.
