Muruthawela Reservoir reaching spill level
Heavy rain experienced in the South at present had resulted in the Muruthawela Reservoir in Weeraketiya reaching spill level. Irrigation Engineer Weeraketiya Division K.N.H. Sahan said three spill gates of the reservoir had been opened and excess water was being released at a speed of 360cu.ft per hour.
The engineers said the capacity of the reservoir was 38,875 acre feet and that it could overflow if the water level of the Urubokka Oya swelled due to the heavy rain being experienced in the area at present.
