Tu­ition mas­ter fails to be a role model

A tu­ition mas­ter in­volved in a fraud amount­ing to Rs. 4.78 mil­lion was pro­duced be­fore Min­uwan­goda Actg. Mag­is­trate Sisira Wi­jesuriya and re­manded till No­vem­ber 14.

Po­lice told court that the sus­pect Don Chan­dana Iroshan alias De­vage Sir, who had been run­ning a cel­lu­lar phone and phone ac­ces­sories shop in ad­di­tion to giv­ing tu­ition to schoolchil­dren, had made pay­ments to sev­eral com­pa­nies us­ing cheques that were later dis­hon­oured.

In­ves­ti­ga­tions re­vealed that five other cases were pend­ing against him in the Min­uwan­goda Mag­is­trate’s Court for sim­i­lar frauds per­pe­trated by him.

He had been ar­rested by the Gam­paha Divi­sion Fraud In­ves­ti­ga­tion Unit when he at­tempted to leave the coun­try.the Mag­is­trate had or­dered the Con­troller of Im­mi­gra­tion and Emi­gra­tion to ar­rest him and an­other sus­pect wanted in con­nec­tion with the fraud if they at­tempted to leave the coun­try.
