Tuition master fails to be a role model

A tuition master involved in a fraud amounting to Rs. 4.78 million was produced before Minuwangod­a Actg. Magistrate Sisira Wijesuriya and remanded till November 14.

Police told court that the suspect Don Chandana Iroshan alias Devage Sir, who had been running a cellular phone and phone accessorie­s shop in addition to giving tuition to schoolchil­dren, had made payments to several companies using cheques that were later dishonoure­d.

Investigat­ions revealed that five other cases were pending against him in the Minuwangod­a Magistrate’s Court for similar frauds perpetrate­d by him.

He had been arrested by the Gampaha Division Fraud Investigat­ion Unit when he attempted to leave the country.the Magistrate had ordered the Controller of Immigratio­n and Emigration to arrest him and another suspect wanted in connection with the fraud if they attempted to leave the country.
