Fraudster who allegedly plundered Rs. 70 mn nabbed
A suspect wanted in connection with a series of frauds amounting to more than Rs.70 million was arrested by the Mount Lavinia Division Law Enforcement Unit after storming his hideout at Ranmutugala, Kadawatha.
Police said the suspect had been wanted in connection with several cases for undertaking to build houses and collecting money but failing to finish the work he had undertaken. Investigations revealed that he had placed advertisements in the press passing himself off as the managing director of a property sales and construction company.

He was arrested during investigations into complaints made by the victims of his deception after he failed to return the money given to him by them. He was said to be under arrest warrant for evading court in connection with three cases brought against him.
A senior police official said that the Mount Lavinia Police had received seven complaints against him, Mirihana police two while the CID had also received two complaints of fraud.

OIC Mount Lavinia Law Enforcement Unit SI Amila Priyankara Abeyweera, Sergeant 33704 Gurusingha, PCS 2858 Siriwardene, 74943 Wimalasiri, 89399 Gihan and 80268 Sanjeewa are conducting further investigations on the instructions of HQI Mount Lavinia Police CI Rohan Pushpakumara, ASPS Saman Wedage, Saman Jayasekara led by SSP Roshan Wijesinghe.
