UN SEC. GEN ‘CONCERNED’ ABOUT PRESIDENT’S DECISION
UN Secretary-general António Guterres learned with concern of President Maithripala Sirisena’s decision to dissolve Sri Lanka’s parliament and the move to call for parliamentary elections on January 5, 2019 his spokesman said.
“The Secretary-general underlines the utmost importance of respecting democratic processes and institutions and resolving differences in accordance with the rule of law and due process. He renews his call for the government to ensure the peace and safety of all Sri Lankans and uphold its commitments to human rights, justice and reconciliation,” Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesman for the Secretary-general said.
