Health ministry robbed during last three years

- BY KRISHAN JEEWAKA JAYARUK

A special audit has been initiated on the financial situation of the institutions under the Health Ministry as the ministry had been robbed during the last three years, Health Minister Chamal Rajapaksa said.

Speaking at the 75th anniversary celebration of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka at the Uyanwatte stadium the former Speaker said that he did not want to accept a ministerial portfolio before the next Parliamentary election, he was forced to do so.

“I was astonished to see the extent that the ministry had been robbed when I went there. Therefore I initiated an audit on the institutions of the ministry so that people can see for themselves the damage done to the country” the Minister stated. The country has gone 450 years backwards within the last three years, the Minister said and added that the harm done to the country during those three years exceeded the harm done by Portuguese, Dutch and English rulers during the 450 years that ruled the country. “The tax burden that had been heaped on the people by the previous administration was far severe than that had been during the colonial period” he stated.

The General Secretary of the Communist Party D.E.W. Gunasekara said that the country was in a debt trap as a result of the capitalist class having been allowed to takes its own course without being controlled by the State. He said that it was the ordinary people who would be on the receiving end.
