Govt. buildings used as polling centres in H’tota need repairs

There are about 88 public buildings that had been used as voting centres in the Hambantota district which are in a dilapidate­d state due to various reasons and need to be repaired in due course, Hambantota Additional District Secretary Suneth Lochana said.

Pre-schools, community centres and Dhamma halls in temples are also used as voting centres in some electorate­s.

He said at a coordinati­ng committee meeting recently that more than Rs. 14 million had been estimated for repairing the centres so that the voters can reach these areas safely specially the differentl­y-abled people to cast their votes.

These type of centres are found in the electorate­s such as Tangalle, Mulgirigal­a, Beliatta and, Tissamahar­ama in the Hambantota district, according to the district secretary.
