22 year-old youth killed in motor accident
A 22 year-old youth who travelled in a luxury motor vehicle had been killed and the 21 year-old driver sustained serious injuries when their vehicle crashed into the clock tower at the Galkulama junction roundabout in Anuradhapura on the Kandy-jaffna A-9 road Thirappane Police said yesterday.
The victim was a youth named Mithun Wijesundara, a resident of Aukana Jaya Mawatha. It has been revealed during the police investigations that he was an employee of a private contract company. The driver of the vehicle was also an employee of this company and a resident of Galkandegama, Kendewa in Medawachchiya.
Police said that they had attended a party in Keleththewa in Anuradhapura on Saturday and on their way back their vehicle had crashed into the clock tower due to its excessive speed. The injured were rushed to the Anuradhapura Teaching hospital by the officers on duty at the Police post in the Galkulama junction.
After admission to the hospital, the youth who sustained serious injuries succumbed.
A team of police officers are conducting an investigation into the incident under the directions of the Thirappane Police OIC IP B.M.S. Dissanayake.
