Three students drown in Pahanthudawala

Three students of the Sabaragamuwa University who had gone to bathe in the Pahanthudawala area of Belihuloya had drowned on Saturday.

The victims have been identified as Gopalakrishnan Sarangan, Selvarathnam Theesan Tishanth and Saravanabavan Gobinath, all three from Jaffna and 25 years of age.

They had first been taken to Pambahinna Rural hospital and later transferred to Balangoda Base Hospital , but the doctors’ attempts to resuscitate them drew a blank. The water level had gone up in the Belihuloya and the three students had not been aware of the danger before they had got into the river. Samanalawewa Police are conducting further investigations.
