PARAKRAMA SAMUDRA OPENS FOR MAHA SEASON

To irrigate 2,500 acres of paddy land for cultivatio­n

The ceremonial releasing of water for the forthcomin­g Maha season for paddy fields irrigated by the Parakrama Samudra was held on Saturday, November 10 on the auspicious time of 9.15 a.m. Leaders of farmer organisati­ons, farmers of the area and officials of the Irrigation Department were present on the occasion.

“A total of 2,500 acres of paddy fields is expected to be cultivated for this Maha Season,” an official said.

Engineer Asela Udaya of the Parakrama Samudra also participat­ed at the ceremony.
