More than 4,000 people hit by rains, floods in the North

Tri Forces deployed to help affected people in Kilinochch­i

A total of 4,472 individual­s belonging to 1,388 families had been hit by the torrential rains experience­d in the Northern Province, the Disaster Management Center said.

“In the Kilinochch­i District 1,910 individual­s belonging to 582 families were affected as at Sunday, November 11,” an official of the DMC said.

“In the Mullaithiv­u District 1,155 people of 427 families are hit by the rains. In the Vavuniya District 21 of five families, in the Jaffna District 1,274 of 341 families and in the Mannar District 112 people of 33 families have been adversely affected by the rains and floods,” he said.

“Steps have been taken to provide medical facilities and dry rations by Disaster Management Center and soldiers deployed under the purview of Commanding Officer of Kilinochch­i Security Forces to help affected people in the Thiruvaiya­ru and Anandapura­m of the Karachchi Divisional Secretaria­t Division in Kilinochch­i.

“Steps have been taken by the Disaster Management Officers to get the help of the Army, Navy and Air Force to facilitate relief to the people of these areas which are very difficult to reach due to torrential rains,” the official said.
