We feel betrayed!

-

Mr. President, I write this as an ordinary citizen of this country, and I am sure that there are many more like me, who are deeply disappointed and gisgusted about what is going on in our country today. In 2015, we voted for you to be the President of our beloved country, and we did so because we wanted a change. Many of us were not die hard Unpers or SLFPERS, and we voted for you, being the Common Candidate, as we were concerned about the way our nation was being governed. So all of us wanted a change.

What have you done now Mr. President? Whatever your personal difficulties in working with Ranil Wickremasinghe as Prime Minister, were you not obliged to ensure that he had lost the confidence of Parliament? You promised us good governance. Is this good governance? Many of us still cannot believe that you are the person we elected as President in 2015!

Ranil should have stepped down as the leader of the UNP, is something that many Unpers agree on. However this is a matter for the party, not for other party leaders.

Mr. President, you have also made various comments and insinuations about the UNP leadership. Surely, no statesman should stoop so low. If you wanted these comments made, you could have left them to some other characters who are ‘well versed’ to that kind of language, whom you have now considered fit to be made cabinet ministers. Where is this nation heading towards?

You have also said that you took these decisions under ‘proper advice’. We can guess who your chief legal advisor was. This man has led many leaders up the garden path. He is clever and can show you a black ball and convince you that it is white, such is the mastery of his language.

We feel betrayed

Mr. President. Betrayed!!
