Rain ruins Sri Lanka’s opening WT20 match

-

Sri Lanka’s opening match in the Women’s World Twenty20 (WT20) Cricket Tournament against England was abandoned without a ball bowled after heavy rain on the island of St Lucia on Saturday.

Both teams collect one point each. England’s next game is against Bangladesh today (12) while Sri Lanka takes on South Africa on the same day.

It was the first time, in the sixth edition of the tournament that a Women’s World T20 game has been washed out completely.

“I’ve not seen an outfield that wet in my entire career,” England Captain Heather Knight told BBC Test Match Special.

“We’re hopeful it gets better in the next week, I can’t see it getting any worse! It’s not stopped raining since we’ve got to St Lucia so we’ve got to be prepared to play shortened games.”
