Destined for great achievements ahead
Prashan Senanayake was just a schoolboy at D. S. Senanayake College, Colombo when he was chosen to play the lead role in a stage play and he did it in style. Years later he started getting offers for a series of top TV commercials and even today he is one of the most sought after youngsters in the TVC scene. Prashan who is extremely passionate about acting and modelling is following a course under veteran actor Mahendra Perera. In 2015, he emerged among the top 10 in the Mr. Sri Lanka for Mr, Globe pageant. Last year he was crowned ‘Dubai Awurudu Kumaraya’ at the Dubai Sri Lankan Festival. With his free-thinking attitude coupled with concern for others, here is one young prospect who could be an ideal choice to fill the void in Sinhala cinema. He has already been pencilled in to play the lead role in a new tele drama directed by Rajeew de Alwis, for which the 25-year-old is preparing himself now. The guy is getting rave reviews for his work already done, and Prashan’s dream is to become a successful actor with local and international focus. “In 2010, I played the lead role in Mr. Deshapriya Bandarathilaka’s stage play “Asai Man Sinasenna” and have so far done some significant TV commercials such as Link Sudantha, Airtel be brave, LB Finance, Maliban biscuit and Commercial Credit Leasing. I also featured in Mr. Wijesiri Gamage’s “Mage Maniyan” song visual in 2016,” said Prashan. “I started my modelling career in 2012 under Mrs. Vasana Danthanarayana and so far I have done fashion shows,performed as a model for live TV programmes and other events. In 2015 I participated in the Mr.sri Lanka for Mr.globe competition and was selected in the Top 10 category. In 2017 I was crowned ‘Dubai Awurudu Kumaraya’ too,” Prashan said, outlining details about his newest tele drama venture. “I will be starting work in Rajeew de Alwis’ new mega tele drama soon.i am preparing for the character which is different to what we see in teles today. This tele drama is titled ‘Randoli’. He wants me to do the main role in his new film too. I always look for quality in any project. Our audiences have distanced themselves from teles and films because we are not focusing on quality,” he said. Going by Prashan’s track record and his level of commitment, he appears to be the next generation choice of the Sinhala cinema.
