Oct. 26, 2018: The UPFA withdrew from the National Government and the President removed Ranil Wickremesinghe from the post of Prime Minister. Oct. 26, 2018: Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa sworn in as the Prime Minister. Oct. 27, 2018: President Maithripala Sirisena prorogued Parliament till November16th. Nov. 04, 2018: President Sirisena decided to reconvene Parliament on November14th. Nov. 09, 2018: President Sirisena dissolved the parliament and scheduled to hold general elections on January 5, 2019. Nov. 09, 2018: The UNP said the dissolution of Parliament by the President nearly two years before its term expired was illegal and went against the constitution. Nov 12,2018 : Several political parties and civil society organizations filed petitions in the Supreme Court against the dissolution of Parliament. The Supreme Court issued an interim order till December 18 staying the proclamation issued by President Maithripala Sirisena to dissolve parliament. Source: News reports
