Oct. 26, 2018: The UPFA withdrew from the National Government and the President removed Ranil Wickremesi­nghe from the post of Prime Minister. Oct. 26, 2018: Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa sworn in as the Prime Minister. Oct. 27, 2018: President Maithripal­a Sirisena prorogued Parliament till November16­th. Nov. 04, 2018: President Sirisena decided to reconvene Parliament on November14­th. Nov. 09, 2018: President Sirisena dissolved the parliament and scheduled to hold general elections on January 5, 2019. Nov. 09, 2018: The UNP said the dissolutio­n of Parliament by the President nearly two years before its term expired was illegal and went against the constituti­on. Nov 12,2018 : Several political parties and civil society organizati­ons filed petitions in the Supreme Court against the dissolutio­n of Parliament. The Supreme Court issued an interim order till December 18 staying the proclamati­on issued by President Maithripal­a Sirisena to dissolve parliament. Source: News reports
