Crash kills 21-yr-old youth
A head-on collision between a motorcycle and a tipper lorry at Matale Junction
A young man died and another was seriously injured in a head-on collision between a motorcycle and a tipper lorry at Matale Junction on the Anuradhapuramihintale road close to midnight on Monday (12).
The motorcycle rider K.m.w.yohan Madusanka (21) died on the spot and the pillion rider received serious injuries in the accident.the latter was rushed to the Anuradhapura teaching hospital by the “Suwaseriya” ambulance attached to the Anurdhapura police headquarters.the deceased and the injured pillion rider were residents of Samagipura in Matale.
Investigations revealed that the motorcycle had veered across the road and was hit by the tipper lorry transporting a consignment of sand from Mihintale to Anuradhapura. Police said the tipper lorry was travelling at an excessive speed when it hit the motorbike. OIC Mihintale Police IP Jayantha Gunatillake said the driver,who fled from the scene after the accident, surrendered to the Anuradhapura Police later. He was to be produced before the Anuradhapura magistrate last morning.
OIC Mihintale Police IP Jayantha Gunatilleka and OIC Traffic Branch IP Ruwan Dharmapala are conducting further investigations.
