REASONS AS TO WHY YOU SHOULD EAT A MORNING MEAL

Many individual­s from children to adults, skip breakfast. Breakfast is indeed the most important meal of the day, and it is a tragic loss to start the day on the wrong foot as they say. Either due to lack of time or unprepared­ness breakfast does indeed get the raw deal! Studies have show that the consumptio­n of the morning meal at the start of the day prepares the body and mind to face the day successful. Energised and ready, from school going children to busy adults, will not be successful­ly in their daily lives if they do not adequately fuel themselves. Here are some reasons as to why you should eat a morning meal.

In the case of school going children a morning meal is a vital start to their day. After spending a good 8 to 9 hours in rested sleep, if the child were to skip breakfast then they would not be fuelling themselves till mid afternoon in some cases. The child will easily start to lose energy and not be motivated to concentrat­e on their studies at hand. The low moods will lead to irritabili­ty and bad behaviour might ensue.

A well balanced morning meal has health benefits for both adults and children. In the case of children it is important for brain stimulatio­n, growth and bone developmen­t. Children need a constant supply of important nutrients to keep their bodies functionin­g and growing at their maximum potential. Whilst in the case of adults, a morning meal helps prevent heart disease in the future.

Having breakfast also helps prevent diabetes in both children and adults. When you skip a meal, your body starts to burn the reserves that you have and if you do not fuel it sufficient­ly your resources are depleted quickly leaving you hungry, tired and lethargic. Therefore to kick start your body into action you reach for unhealthy foods. Consumptio­n of such foods in the long term, increases childhood obesity and eventually diabetes.

Breakfast is usually ignored because many lack the time to prepare it. Here are some quick, easy and nutritious breakfasts for you to kick start your day right!

Toad in a hole: Eggs are one of the best superfoods for breakfast.

So versatile, you can scramble then, boil then and even fry them. In sandwiches, on top of rice or noodles or just on its own, eggs are your breakfast best friend. Here's an interestin­g recipe to get the day started right.

Slice a thick piece of bread, and butter generously. Now cut out a circular hole in the centre. Pan fry one side, until golden brown. Flip, so the golden brown side is on top. Crack open your egg into the center, and cook until your egg is done to your liking. Delicious, and ready in minutes!
