“We have witnessed individuals dumping garbage across several locations in Colombo. This inconveniences our employees who collect garbage regularly as much of that is dumped is not segregated. The workers are the ones who take the blame for the inconvenience caused by these individuals. These measures are being taken to identify the culprits and ensure legal action is taken against them,”she said.
Sylvester went on to say that taking legal action against the culprits came under the purview of the environmental police and that to date the municipality had not received their complete assistance in apprehending these culprits.
“Fixing these cameras would help them identify these individuals and take relevant legal action. We hope that this is the assistance they required to halt this menace.” Speaking of the project, Sylvester said that tenders had been called and that a proposal would be submitted to the Colombo Municipal Council for approval this month. She concluded that it was illegal to dump garbage at any location, especially if it was dumped before the garbage collectors came on their rounds.
