Speaker acted in biased manner: Namal

- BY YOHAN PERERA AND KELUM BANDARA

Speaker has not acted independently today and had declared that the present government has no majority in the House

Government MP Namal Rajapaksa yesterday charged that Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has acted in a biased manner in Parliament last afternoon the same way he has been doing during the last three and a half years.

“Speaker has not acted independently today and had declared that the present government has no majority in the House. No vote was taken up in connection with the No-confidence Motion brought by the JVP. Speaker’s decision to take a vote by voice is not counted as per the standing orders,” he said.

At the same time, he said UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe could be appointed as the Prime Minister only if 113 members in the House hands over a document to President informing him that they support him.

“Mr Wickremesinghe could be appointed Prime Minister only if 113 members supported him,” he said. Asked where they would sit in Parliament today, Mr Rajapaksa said they would sit on the Government benches.
