Matara City stuns Saunders 2-1

City Sports Club, Matara created a major upset when they defeated Saunders Sports Club 2-1 in their Dialog Champions League Football Tournament match played at the Football Complex in Kelaniya.

Larbi Prince and C. B. Weerappuli netted a goal each for the winners who led 1-0 at half time. Chryshantha Abeysekara scored the solitary goal for Saunders SC.

Meanwhile, Renown SC defeated Java Lane SC 2-0 after leading 1-0 at half time in another match played at the City Football Complex in Colombo.

O. Jimoh and Dilip Suraj scored a goal each for the winners.

In addition, the match between New Youngs SC and Negombo Youth SC ended in a 1-1 draw at the Albert F. Peiris Stadium in Wennappuwa.

K. S. Jayalath opened the scoring for New Youngs SC in the first half while B. A. Eshan scored the equaliser for Negombo Youth SC in the second half.

The match between Up Country Lions SC and Pelicans SC was abandoned in the 17th minute due to heavy rain at the Jayathilaka Stadium in Nawalapitiya. The scores were nil-all when the match was abandoned.
