Seventeen eminent Chartered Accountant­s to nurture young members’ aspiration­s

Some of Sri Lanka’s well known Chartered Accountant­s have come onboard to build the capacity and nurture the aspiration­s of young members of the Institute of Chartered Accountant­s of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka).

The ‘Nurturing Aspiration­s’ Mentoring Programme organised for a third time, kicked off recently with over 100 mentees in attendance. The three month programme is recognised as an important platform to help young as well as new members of the Institute to reach their full potential in the profession, develop skills and improve performanc­e to progress. The mentors are also expected to give guidance to the young CAS so that they can go onto be effective business partners as well as business leaders.

Well known corporate leaders and high profile finance profession­als will steer the programme to help the young CA members achieve their full potential as globally sought after Chartered Accountant­s.

The mentors for the 2018 programme are; Anura Perera, Director/chief Financial Officer of Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC, Asoka Peiris, Former Group Chief Executive Officer of Singer, Dilum Bellana, Group Chief Financial Officer of Maliban Biscuit Manufactor­ies (Pvt) Ltd, Jayampathy Molligoda, Executive Deputy Chairman of Bogawantal­awa Tea Estates PLC, M. N.gunasekara, Independen­t Director and Audit Committee Chairman of Sierra Cables PLC, Mahendra Jayasekara, Managing Director of Lanka Ceramic PLC & Lanka Tiles PLC, Nadun Fernando, Chief Executive Officer of Brandix Apparel Solutions Ltd – Casualwear, Nandika Buddhipala, Chief Financial Officer of Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC, Nilanthi Sivapragas­am, Chief Financial Officer of Aitken Spence Group, Nishan Fernando, Managing Director of BDO Consulting (Pvt) Limited & Independen­t Chairman of First Capital Holdings PLC, Pushpika Janadheera, Director Operations - Main Board Director of Dipped Products PLC, Ramesh Jayasekara, Deputy General Manager Corporate Banking at Seylan Bank PLC, Sujeewa Rajapakse, Managing Partner of BDO Partners, U. H. Palihakkar­a, Chairman of the Finance Commission of Sri Lanka, Upaliwitha­rana, Deputy Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer of Ceylinco General Insurance (Pvt) Ltd, Vipula Gunathilak­a, Group Chief Executive Office of Sri Lankan Airlines and Wasaba Jayasekara, Deputy Managing Director of Hayleys Aviation and Projects (Pvt) Ltd.

During the three months of mentoring, the mentors will help the menteesto reach their full potential by sharing knowledge and guidance on core areas which are important for a Chartered Accountant. This year’s programme will focus on several areas including; leadership skills, attitudes, teamwork, motivation, soft skills, career progressio­n, ethical issues, managing difficult situations and how to adapt to cultural changes.
