Thora is an attractive plant that grows in the wild, mainly grabbing one’s attention with its bright yellow flowers. Although much hasn’t been spoken about this plant, it takes a special place in the herbal plants spectrum. Hence, this week we will discuss about Eth Thora in detail.

DESCRIPTIO­N

Eth Thora is an evergreen, medicinal shrub which grows up to three to four metres in height. Its leaves have colours ranging from medium to dark green and close in the dark. Bright yellow five petal cup-shaped flowers bloom bottom to top and they look like a yellow candle. The fruit, shaped like a pod grows up to 25 cm long and seeds are distribute­d by water and animals. In the tropics, it is grown as an ornamental flowering shrub or a small tree.

MEDICINAL USES

Ringworm: As its name suggests, Eth Thora is used to treat ringworm and other fungal infections of the skin.

Laxative: The leaves of the Eth Thora plant are laxative and are used to treat conditions such as constipati­on and purifies blood. Skin diseases: The Eth Thora bark is used to treat parasitic skin diseases, eczema and scabies. Convulsion­s: This is a condition of the brain caused by a sudden involuntar­y contractio­n and relaxation of the muscles. Eth Thora is known to be an effective remedy for this condition. Antipyreti­c: Eth Thora is another one of those herbs which has the ability to lower body temperatur­e.

HOME REMEDIES

Skin diseases: Apply the leaf juice of Eth Thora directly on the affected areas two to three times a day.

Stomach problems: Crush Eth Thora seeds, flowers and leaves in a cup. Let it steep in boiling water for around 15 minutes. Leave it to cool and drink thrice a day. Antifungal: Grind some Eth Thora leaves with coconut oil and make a paste. Apply externally on affected areas.

Ringworm: Directly apply leaf paste for relief.

Asthma: Boil Eth Thora leaves in some water for 10-15 minutes to make a tea. Drink thrice a day until relieved.

Wounds: Take some Eth Thora leaves, grind them with a little water and apply this paste with a piece of cotton wool on affected parts. Constipati­on: Take a dried Eth Thora flower, crush and take it with honey.
