- BY AJITHLAL SHANTHA UDAYA AND DAPANE JAYANTHA NANAYAKKARA

In an appeal made to President Maithripala Sirisena, Venerable Omalpe Sobhitha Thera asked the President to attend the Parliament and witness for himself as to who commands the majority confidence.

“Without plunging the country into further destruction, the President should attend Parliament to witness who musters a majority. He should join with the legislature to stabilise the country,” the Venerable Thera said while expressing his views at a media briefing held yesterday in Embilipitiya.

“The current political conflict should be resolved without any delay, if not the country will be severely affected. Economy, peace and international fame are rapidly degenerating. Therefore, solutions have to be found immediately. This is up to the President. As the conflict is now within the legislature, the legislature and the executive should join hands to sort out the issue,” the Venerable Thera said.
