Peradeniya Uni students protest suspension of fellow undergrads
Students of the Peradeniya University yesterday staged a protest in front of the senate building against the suspension of several students of the Rajarata, Southeastern and Peradeniya universities. More than 1,000 students participated in the protest.
General Students Union President Nalin Dissanayake said four students had been suspended for two years on false allegations in an attempt to suppress the student movement. He said the university administration implicated the four students in an incident that occurred several years ago. He threatened to launch a massive campaign with the participation of students from all universities if the university administration failed to withdraw the arbitrary decision. Meanwhile, the protesters said arbitrary decisions taken by the administration would seriously affect the future of the students who were pursuing their studies amid financial constraints.
