Abducting and sexually abusing a schoolgirl

Sentenced to 17 years RI, to pay Rs. 300,000 to victim

An accused who was indicted with abducting and sexually abusing a schoolgirl under 16 years of age was found guilty and sentenced to 17 years rigorous imprisonme­nt and fined Rs.15,000 by Moneragala High Court Judge Pradeep Abeyratne. He was ordered to pay Rs.300,000 to the victim as compensati­on.

The accused Wannaukuge Priyantha of Hambegamuw­a had on June 02, 2013 abducted and sexually abused a girl of the area and he was indicted by the Attorney General on two counts.

The judge sentenced him to five years rigorous imprisonme­nt under the first count and to 12 years rigorous imprisonme­nt under the second count. State Counsel Gayana Perera prosecuted.
