Drug trafficking couple in police custody

A young couple were arrested at Usawatta in Kandana on suspicion of drug trafficking.

The Kandana Police said the suspects were in possession of 36 grams of heroin and Rs.9,000 in cash. Police said the trade value of the stock of heroin could be about Rs.500,000. Investigations revealed that the suspects had been earlier released on bail by the High court in connection with 13 pending cases against them and that they had been carrying on the racket for a long time.

Police personnel led by Kandana Police OIC Chief Inspector Ajith Rohana on the instructions of SSP Upali Jayasinghe carried out the arrests with the help of a decoy.
