Anusha takes wing to India for AIBA Meet
Sri Lanka’s most experienced Women’s boxer and Commonwealth Games Bronze Medallist Anusha Kodituwakku left the island yesterday to participate in the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships which begins in New Delhi, India on Saturday (17).
Anusha is the only Women’s boxer selected to represent Sri Lanka at this championship following her excellent performances at the recently concluded Clifford Cup Boxing Championships.
Anusha will be up against
Lisa Sandebjer of Sweden, the Silver Medallist of the European Confederation Boxing Championships in 2016 and 2017 in her first preliminary bout of the fly weight 51kg weight category on Saturday.
Earlier, Anusha also won a Bronze Medal at the Ulaanbaatar Women’s Boxing Championships held this year.
Anusha also bagged the Silver Medal at the South Asian Games (SAG) while losing to five-time World champion Mary Kom of India.
This will be Anusha’s seventh appearance at the AIBA Women’s World Championships having earlier participated in 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016.
This year’s edition of the AIBA Women’s World Championship will see 333 boxers from 73 countries in action.
