Dinesh rejects claim on NCM in parliament
Whatever the statements he makes has no value. It was not held in Parliament and according to Standing Orders. The Speaker tried to enter the House by way of a side door with the police
The government yesterday rejected the claims that the No-confidence Motion against the Prime Minister and the Government was passed in the House yesterday.
Minister and leader of the house Dinesh Gunawardane told a news conference held at the Parliamentary complex that parliament sessions did not take place yesterday and passing of the said no-confidence motion was not valid.
“Whatever the statements he makes has no value. It was not held in Parliament and according to Standing Orders. The Speaker tried to enter the House by way of a side door with the police. But it did not materialise” he said.
He said their MPS staged a protest inside the Chambers as the Speaker did not take action to arrest the MPS who had brought knives into the Chamber.
“The speaker should be held responsible for the chaotic situation which erupted in the House. We requested him to mediate and immediately arrest the two MPS. But he did not take action which led to our MPS to stage a protest,” he said.
He alleged that the Speaker had become a cat’s paw of the opposition.
