Assault case: Anamaduwa PS Chairman, five others released on bail

The Ana maduwa Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman and five others were yesterday released on bail after they were produced before Anamaduwa Magistrate Janani S. Wijethunga for allegedly assaulting a man who had behaved in a violent manner in the Anamaduwa town.

Among those released on bail were Anamaduwa PS Chairman (SLPP) Priyantha Rajakaruna, Sarath Bandula, Jagath Weerasekar­a, Sumith Push pakumara, w. t. d. Jayakody and J.A. Sanathkuma­ra,

Anamaduwa Police arrested the suspects on Tuesday night after receiving a complaint that they assaulted a UNP supporter and later they were produced in the Anamaduwa Magistrate­s Court. Anamaduwa OIC chief Inspector Upali Ratthnamal­ala and PC 24055 Athapatthu in their submission told the court that the PS chairman and other five suspects were accused of unlawful assembly and assaulting one and also for having a machete in their possession at the time.

After considerin­g the police submission, the Judge released the suspects on a surety bond of RS.50,000 each.
