Ten MPS and twelve police officers injured

Most were attacked with chilly powder being thrown at them

About 10 MPS from both the government and the opposition were injured during the tense situation that prevailed in the house yesterday, while 12 police officers were also injured.

Most were attacked with chilly powder being thrown at them. Kandy District Parliament­arian Mahindanan­da Aluthgamag­e said five government MPS were injured when the Opposition MPS threw various objects such as water bottles and books.

According to a senior police officer, SSP Parliament Police Division Sarath Kumara and Mount Lavinia SSP Roshan Wijesinghe are among the injured police officers. An IP, One SI and sergeant and seven PCS were also injured in the turmoil.

PC Moward in his statement to the police has said he was hit and injured by an object thrown by MP Prasanna Ranaweera.

However there is no one seriously injured according to the spokesman.

The security measures within the parliament­ary complex and outside were tightened after the incident on the instructio­ns of the IGP.
