Boat services disrupted in Jaffna Peninsula due to “GAJA”

- BY ROMESH MADUSANKA

Residents of Jaffna said that boat transportation had come to a standstill due to the water levels around Delft Island declining to about five feet last morning trigged by “GAJA,” the storm that swept across the Jaffna District.

They said passenger ships travelling between Delft Island and Kurikattuwan were not operating due to this decline in water levels.

It is reported that winds had been blowing between 100-150 km per hour in the area and area residents were said to be taking cover and did not want to venture outside as a result for fear of being harmed.

Sources in Jaffna revealed that while rains still persist in the area the storm and strong (cyclonic) winds that accompanied it last night had now moved away.
