Two persons arrested for allegedly forging driving licences
Two individuals were produced before Nuwara Eliya Magistrate Pramod Jayasekara charged with forging driving licences and were remanded till November 19.
The suspects, one about 75-yearsold and the other a 56-year-old man, were accused of forging driving licences for Rs.45,000 each. They had been arrested by the Nuwara Eliya Division Crime Investigations Unit during a raid conducted in the Meepilimana area.
Police told court that the officers on traffic duty at the Kelegala Junction on the Nuwara Eliyabadulla Road, while checking a lorry, discovered that the driver was in possession of a forged driving licence. On being questioned about how he came into possession of the forged document he provided police with information leading to the arrest of the individuals responsible for the fraud. The police produced four forged driving licences seized during investigations into the forgery racket.
OIC Traffic IP Seneviratne, PCS 37282 Jayathissa, 37671 Manjula, 85750 Kapila, 66185 Rupasinghe, 73918 Jayantha had conducted investigations on the instructions of HQI Nuwara Eliya Police Chandana Basnayake and arrested the suspects.
Attorneys-at-law Suresh Gayan, and D.s.h.karandeniya appeared for the two suspects in the case.
