Civilian lands in North returned by army

Land amounting to 23 hectares, belonging to civilians, that had been occupied by the security forces of the Vanni Security Force Headquarte­rs, was handed over to the Mullaitivu Government Agent to be restored to their rightful owners. The land had been under the 612 brigade of the Sinha Regiment before being released.

A senior military official said President Maithripal­a Sirisena had implemente­d a programme to release the land belonging to civilians back to them.

Commanding Officer of the 20 Sinha Regiment Mjr. I.j.wickremesi­nghe had been instructed by the Vanni Brigade Commander Mjr. Gen. Kumudu Perera to hand over the land to the Government Agent.
