Civilian lands in North returned by army

Land amounting to 23 hectares, belonging to civilians, that had been occupied by the security forces of the Vanni Security Force Headquarters, was handed over to the Mullaitivu Government Agent to be restored to their rightful owners. The land had been under the 612 brigade of the Sinha Regiment before being released.

A senior military official said President Maithripala Sirisena had implemented a programme to release the land belonging to civilians back to them.

Commanding Officer of the 20 Sinha Regiment Mjr. I.j.wickremesinghe had been instructed by the Vanni Brigade Commander Mjr. Gen. Kumudu Perera to hand over the land to the Government Agent.
