Prisoner on death row allegedly killed by fellow prisoners
A prisoner of the Angunukolapelessa Prison had been hit with a stone and killed last afternoon by two fellow prisoners. The deceased, Menaka Sanjeewa (39) had been jailed for the murder of six members of a single family in Hokandara in 1999 and sentenced to death.
Prisons Superintendent W.P. Dhammika said the two prisoners suspected of the killing had been convicted of two other murders and were on death row.
OIC Angunukolapelessa IP Kithari Gunawardene was conducting investigations with the assistance of Prisons Superintendent B.m.m.dasanayake coming under SPS Abeyraj Gamlath and Laksiri Geethal under the command of DIG Vijitha Gunaratne.
