Satinwood stock seized in transit, two suspects nabbed

A stock of illicit timber was seized in transit and two suspects taken into custody by the forest conservati­on officials in Madu. Officials of the Madu Range Forest Conservati­on office carried out the raid with the help of the STF on a tip-off from the public.

The tractor and the double cab used by the suspects to transport the stock of timber were seized during the raid. Investigat­ions revealed that the suspects had felled valuable Satinwood Trees in the Madu Forest Reserve and were transporti­ng them to Vavuniya, Mannar and Jaffna for sale.

Range Forest Conservato­rs L.A.S.YAPA, Beat Officer H.k.g.jayantha, Field Assistants T.m.dissanayak­e, A.l.wijeratne, J.jeniston with the assistance of officers of the Puwasernku­lam STF camp IP P.d.upananda, SI U.a.silva, Sergeant 39254 Tharanga, PCS 17120 Senaratne and 86886 Chaturanga carried out the raid.
