Schoolboy drowns while bathing in tank

A schoolboy who was bathing in the Pattakadu Tank in Thirunawakkulama in Vavuniya had drowned. Police said 14-year-old Suresh Kumar (14) was a resident of Thirunawakkulama and a student of Thandikulama Pramandu Vidyalaya.

Investigations revealed that the youngster along with several others had gone for a bath in the tank which was filled to the brim due to heavy rain experienced in the area and got into difficulty. Several young men in the area had brought him to the river bank and he was rushed to the Vavuniya hospital, only to be pronounced already dead.

T h e postmortem examination was to be held yesterday at the Vavuniya hospital.
