David Pieris with convincing win over Softlogic

David Pieiris Motor Company (DPMC) recorded a convincing 68-60 win over Softlogic Holdings, after leading 35-27 at half time in the ongoing 28th Mercantile Services Basketball Associatio­n (MSBA) League Men’s tournament.

The ‘D’ Division fixtures continued at the Henry Pedris and SJC courts. Thanushka Wanigaratn­e (20 and POG), Nalaka Kumarasing­he (15) and Jagath Kulathunga (12) were the top shooters for DPMC while Susantha Kumara (21) and Damith Premawarde­na (15) scored for Softlogic.

RESULTS:

CDB Finance trounced Virtusa 75-36, after leading, 36-18 at half time. Lakshitha Fonseka (25 and POG), Kanchana Gunasekera (18) and Supun Lakmal (12) piled on the points for CDB.

CDB Finance won a double header, as they beat MAS Holdings ‘B’ 67-42, after leading 39-18 at half time. Lakshitha Fonseka (18 and POG), Kanchana Gunasekera (12) and Supun Lakmal (10) scored for CDB. Chandika Ariyaratne (16) stood out for MAS.

DPMC recorded a smashing 73-50 win over Commercial Bank, after holding a commanding lead, 36-17 at half time. The match winning shooters for DPMC were Thanushka Wanigaratn­e (20 and POG), Jagath Kulatunga (17) and Nalaka Kumarasing­he (12). The scorers for the bankers were Kushan Perera (16), Kaveen Pathiraja (11) and J. Armugam (10).

MAS Holdings ‘B’ advanced to the semifinals, as they recorded a crushing 62-40 win over Virtusa, after holding a massive lead, 31-10 at half time. Abdul Qadir (13 and POG), Azeem Amen (12) and Dinith Pathirage (10) scored for MAS. Dilka Sirimanne (17) and Denver Spittel (15) played tirelessly for Virtusa.

CDB Finance advanced to the final with an improved performanc­e in the second half thus beating Commercial Bank, 88-69. The bankers held a onepoint lead at half time (42-41). CDB’S Match winning shooters were Kanchana Gunasekera (22 and POG), Dhakshika Wijesinghe (20) and Lakshitha Fonseka (17). Ashan Rukmal (21) stood out for Commercial Bank.

DPMC too advanced to the final, as they claimed a convincing 63-54 win over MAS Holdings ‘B’, after leading 29-24 at half time. The DPMC match winning trio were Thanushka Wanigaratn­e (16) Nalaka Kumarasing­he (15 and POG) and Jagath Kulatunga (11). Abdul Qadir (19) and Nalaka Ranasinghe (12) played a tireless game for MAS.
