Pepper

- BY SIROHMI

“I’m hungry as a hunter. What have you got for breakfast?” asked Shanti. “How about eggs?” suggested Noel. “Well, I could do with an omelette. What are the veggies you can add to it?” asked Shanti.

“I could cut up a green bell pepper and some tomato. I can also grate some cheese. Does that sound good?” said Noel. “That sounds yummy. Only I hope you won’t get angry with me if I asked you to make it for me” said Shanti.

“Oh I know that I am hot-headed. I get angry easily but I could rustle up an omelette for you without losing my cool” said Noel. “If only you kept your cool always, I’ll be happy. If you feel yourself getting angry, just take a deep breath and count up to twenty before you say or do anything. Look at this bell pepper and think that your anger is inside it.

Then you can think that you are cutting up your rage as you cut it. If you are angry with someone, just chop up the negative feeling. With time, you will feel better towards that person. Or you can simply walk away from the peppery situation” suggested Shanti. “I know. If only I thought before I raised my hand to hit my sister, she would not have run away. I think that there are many unfortunate situations due to anger. We call it terrorism in the plural but it actually begins with an act of anger” said Noel. “Domestic violence goes on in many people’s homes and is covered up in order to present a peaceful front to the world. But beneath the façade is the victim of violence. A witness to violence is inevitably a victim.” concluded Shanti.
