Suspect arrested with heroin worth Rs.25mn

Was arrested while he was transporti­ng the heroin in a car

A 33-year-old suspect had been arrested with 2.79 kg of heroin valued at more than Rs.25 million at Kotahena on Saturday night by the officials of the Colombo Division Crimes Prevention Unit.

Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said the suspect, a resident of Grandpass in Colombo 14, was arrested following a tipoff while he was transporti­ng the heroin in a car. The suspect would be detained for seven-days for further questionin­g after being produced in the Maligakand­a Magistrate’s Court.

The police suspect that the arrested man is linked to the Colombo based underworld drug smuggling gang.

The Police arrested four suspects in possession of 650 grams of heroin in Grandpass, Mahawatta area. The stock of heroin is estimated to worth Rs. 7 million.
